During my 20+ year career in nonprofit and leadership development spaces, I’ve had the unique opportunity to interview leaders and change agents from around the world and help them articulate their stories and move people to action. Your Brand Persona covers your brand personality, tone, and style to help inform internal and external content creators and writers (and even AI) on the way you want to communicate so they can write on your behalf with consistency.
Customer Hero Story
A Customer Hero Story incorporates the elements of story structure to articulate your customer’s motivations, emotions, fears, pain points, problems, obstacles, and goals while positioning your brand as an empathetic, expert guide who can help your customers get what they’re looking for.
Customer Persona
A Customer Persona includes your best understanding of your ideal customer’s characteristics so that you can better empathize with their pain points, needs, and goals.
Value Proposition
A Value Proposition is a quick elevator pitch (based on your Customer Hero Story) highlighting what you offer, who it serves, and how it benefits people.
Tagline
A Tagline is a short phrase that resonates with who you are and helps customers remember you. Unlike a slogan, a tagline is typically a more permanent phrase incorporated throughout your messaging.

Testimonial Interview(s)
Testimonial Interview(s): Video-call interviews are conducted to identify your customer’s preferences, challenges, and needs, as well as what they enjoy about working with you. These interviews serve two purposes—they provide clarity around your ideal customer persona as well as testimonials you can use to highlight your effectiveness and reputation. The benefit of face-to-face interviews over a video call is the opportunity to unpack any specific nuances and ask follow-up questions. Since I’m not a part of your organization, these interviews can also help uncover additional feedback you may not hear otherwise.
Case Study
A Case Study is a deep dive into a customer’s experience working with you. It includes the problem they came to you with, the solution you offered, how you helped solve the problem, and the outcomes as a result. In this process, I conduct two interviews (and/or surveys)—one with the customer and one with you, the organization/brand. I then review and draft the answers into a Case Study (with visual suggestions) highlighting how others can benefit from working with you.
Biography
Your Biography highlights your experience, accomplishments, and authority in your industry. It also helps set up your reputation with your audience and gives people a sense of who you are. It differs from your brand story in that it focuses on your background and expertise, rather than explaining why you do what you do. This add-on can include just the founder and CEO or your entire team. The benefit of having one writer for your entire team’s bios is consistency of format, tone, and style.
LinkedIn Profile Recommendations
LinkedIn Profile Recommendations help you improve your online presence on one of the primary social networking platforms for leaders. By identifying key parts of your background and values, I will suggest where you can add different elements to improve your profile and elevate your presence so people are clear about who you are, what you do, and how you can serve them.
Website Copy Outline Recommendation
A Website Copy Outline Recommendation provides you with a copy and website outline for three primary pages of your website, including your Home and About pages. It takes all the elements from the Essential Brand Guide process and incorporates them into compelling language for a website that connects to your ideal audience. This copy outline can then be given to a web designer or developer to incorporate into your website.
Mission & Vision Statements
A Mission Statement communicates why you exist, who you serve, and how you serve them.
A Vision Statement communicates a picture of the ideal world you want to create as a result of your service or product.
Through a series of additional interview questions, we will work together to unpack these critical pieces of your brand message.
Grammar & Language Preferences
Grammar and Language Preferences help inform internal and external content creators and writers of any nuances, rules, or jargon related to your business or organization so they can write on your behalf with clarity and ease. (Note: These preferences are best paired with your Personality, Tone, and Style guidelines.)
Content Guidelines
Content Guidelines inform topic focus, content strategy, and what success looks like for your internal and external content creators, writers, marketers, and communicators. In the process of unpacking your brand message, some of these content pillars will begin to emerge naturally. These additional guidelines will ensure your teams have plenty of content and stories to share with your audience!
Internal/External Brand Alignment Audit
An Internal/External Alignment, included in the Brand Voice & Messaging Audit package, can be included as an add on to the Express and Extend Your Voice Packages. It includes an internal survey for your team, an external survey for your customers, and an analysis of the results to identify where there may be misalignment or room for clarity.

Does branding include messaging?
Yes! Branding is not just about your colors, fonts, logos, or graphics. Branding should also include how you communicate with your audience using words.
What is story-based branding?
Story-based branding utilizes the principles of a story structure to take your customers on a journey from having a need or problem to solve to finding a solution in your product or service. It also incorporates the wisdom from your own story to show empathy and provide guidance to your ideal customer.
Can my business or organization go through the branding process as a group?
The current processes as they are set up are best designed for one to two key stakeholders involved in marketing and/or communication for your brand. However, broadening the process to your wider team may prove to create a rich, team-building experience. If a group experience is desired, please contact me for a unique arrangement and pricing adjustments that can accommodate your goals.
How long does it take to go through each branding package?
The length of time varies by schedule availability. Each package involves surveys, interviews, drafting, reviews, editing, and approvals. Here are the estimated times for each package, including:
Experience Your Voice: 2 Internal Surveys, 1 External Survey, & 1hr Presentation to Review Results (2-5 weeks depending on survey distribution and completion)
Express Your Voice: 3 hrs of Interviews & 3 Surveys (4 to 6 weeks)
Extend Your Voice: 6 Surveys & 6 hrs of Interviews (6 to 10 weeks)

What is a brand voice & messaging guide?
A brand voice and messaging guide provides clarity and consistency in how you talk about your brand, including your story, values, personality, style, preferences, as well as your customer’s story and the specific problem you solve. It can be used internally among staff, externally among contractors and vendors, and can also be integrated into AI generators. It pairs well with a brand visual style guide.
Why should I care about my brand voice and messaging?
Your brand voice and messaging express the core of your business or organization. Without clarity on how you talk about your brand, you risk unrealized potential, lost sales or donations, inconsistency across your platforms, and confusing your audience.
Can I customize a package if I don’t need all the elements offered?
Yes, during our initial call, we can review your goals and discuss a customized package that meets your needs.
What is your process?
In my one-on-one guided process, you’ll go through a series of surveys and deep-dive interviews that unpack your brand voice, story, and messaging style. Then, based on carefully curated notes from our conversations, I will craft a script and/or guide you can use to inform almost anywhere you communicate with your audience!
What is brand messaging?
Brand messaging goes beyond your brand personality, tone, and style (your brand voice), it also includes specifics on how you talk about who you are, what you do, why you do it, the problem you solve, and the customers you serve. Well crafted brand messaging is clearly defined and understood by you, your team, and your customers.
Are interviews conducted in person or online?
Interviews are primarily conducted online to allow me to record our conversations and take accurate notes that capture how you talk about your brand. (If in-person interviews are preferred, special arrangements can be made to accommodate.)
